Hi! Jana hosts Top Ten Tuesday @thatartsyreadergirl. This weekly meme is born out of a love of lists, and bringing the book blogging community together. Each week, Jana will post a prompt, and we readers will post our list based on the prompt. This week, our topic is Book Covers That Feel Like Summer (Submitted by Ellie @ Curiosity Killed the Bookworm). I’m not a huge fan of cover-based topics, so I’m going to do my Top Ten Queer Novels. I meant to do this in June, and I never did.
1- One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston
This is my favorite novel by Casey McQuiston. I reread it in June, and it’s just so cute. I love the characters in the story, and that they all care about each other. The story is a story that you don’t hear often. I’m not the biggest fan of Sci-Fi books, but I love the Sci-Fi elements of this story. The romance of this story is also so sweet.
2- Tash Hearts Tolstoy by Kathryn Ormsbee
This was one of the first queer novels I’ve read, and it was a novel that I fell head over heels for, Ace is not a rep that you see a lot in books, but I love this book because of how different it is from other queer novels. I love Web series, in fact, I went through a phase a few years ago, where I watched a bunch of web series. The characters, the story, the rep, and the web series elements make this one of my favorite stories.
3- Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
I’m sure that you were expecting this book if you’ve been following this blog for a while, I’m sure you knew this book was coming.. This is one of my favorite queer stories, and it was one of the first ones I’d read just before the movie came out, The story is sweet, and the characters are some of my favorites in all the queer stories I’ve read.
4- Kate in Waiting by Becky Albertalli
Kate in Waiting is a newer release from Becky Albetalli, but I just love it. How the characters interact is one of my favorite elements of the story. That Musicals play a big element in the story is also one of my favorite things about this book. Once Upon A Mattress is a lesser-known classic musical, so I’m glad that it got some love in this book. Kate is a fantastic character, and she is one of my favorite queer characters.
5- Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo
I listened to the audiobook of this last month, and it was one of my favorite stories. I had some issues with a few of the elements, but the overall story, and the characters in the story I loved. The audiobook also came with an author’s note, which was a fantastic listen as well, as it gives you context for the time period.
6- I Kissed Sahara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston
I Kissed Shara Wheeler is a novel that came out in May. I listened to the audiobook, and I just loved it, The story is very similar to Paper Towns by John Green, and it follows the same story elements for the first 50% of the book. The latter part of the book becomes its own story, and I just loved the book.
7- Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
I read this book the year it came out, and then I reread it last year. I love the sweetness of the story. Characters are one of my favorite things in books, and this book has so many fantastic characters. I knew little about Day of the Dead before reading this book, and I learned so much just from reading this book.
8- Delilah Green Doesn’t Care by Ashley Herring Blake
Is it cheating to put a book you’re reading now on a list like this? Maybe! I fell head over heels for this book, and I’m loving this book so much. The characters in the story are fantastic, Delilah is so sassy, and I love her personality so much. I love the story of Delilah having a crush on her sister’s friend. The romance and the banter between Delilah and Claire is so good, and I can’t wait to read more.
9- Ophelia After All by Racquel Marie
This is one of my favorite books of the year. I loved the characters and the story.
10- Perfect on Paper by Sophie Gonzales
This book surprised me by how much I loved it. I loved Darcy as a character and I loved the story of Perfect on Paper.
I love this list!
