Synopsis:
Emmett Maguire wants to be country music’s biggest gay superstar–a far reach when you’re seventeen and living in Illinois. But for now, he’s happy to do the next best thing: Stay with his aunt in Jackson Hollow, Tennessee, for the summer and perform at the amusement park owned by his idol, country legend Wanda Jean Stubbs.
Luke Barnes hates country music. As the grandson of Verna Rose, the disgraced singer who had a famous falling out with Wanda Jean, Luke knows how much pain country music has brought his family. But when his mom’s medical bills start piling up, he takes a job at the last place he wants: a restaurant at Wanda World.
Neither boy is looking for romance, but sparks fly when they meet – and soon they’re inseparable. Until a long-lost secret about Verna and Wanda comes to light, threatening to unravel everything.
Will Emmett and Luke be able to get past the truths they discover…or will their relationship go down in history as just another Sad Country Love Song?
15 Reactions while reading
1- This book had an interesting start and I’m curious as to where this story will go.

3- The meeting of Luke and Emmett was so cute and I can’t wait to see what happens between the two of them.
4- I love the friendship between Luke and Vanessa. They have a history but really care about each other.
5- I thought Emmett was bold to ask for Luke’s number upon a second meeting. However, I also found the scene adorable.
6- The first date where Luke tells Emmett and the reader about his family was so sweet. I loved how Emmett was willing to listen as Luke spoke.
7-Emmett meeting Wana Jean was so sweet and I loved what she said to him.
8- The early moments of Emmett and Luke falling in love are so sweet. I really hope they get together.
9- The scene with Luke and Vanessa getting an outfit for Luke was so sweet. You can tell both of them still care about each other, even though they’re not dating anymore.
10- The conversation Emmett has with Orrin Merrick is very eye-opening for him, and I believe it’s exact;y what he needed to hear.
11- The family dynamic between Luke, Gabe, and Amelia is so sweet. I feel like they act as real siblings would, even though they’re step-siblings.
12- Even if Luke and Emmett don’t end up together, the way that Emmett cares about Luke’s mom is so sweet, and I just love it.
13-I love that Emmett is sticking up for himself in the music studio. The music industry is tough, and it gets harder if you don’t stick to your guns, and perform your own music.
14-I love that Emmett got promoted to the front half of Calamity Joe. I feel like this is a big step for him because he is showing that he is a team player.
15-The end of the book was so sweet. I’m so happy that Emmett and Luke patched things out, and that they had that sweet moment in the end.
